Investing in the future
of Poultry Science
Our goal is to have this new facility become a flagship land-grant university mill, serving students, faculty, staff of Mississippi State, as well as the state of Mississippi and the poultry industry through high quality outputs in:
Currently, any pelleted research feed is being outsourced to Auburn University. They manufacture the feed and it is shipped to MSU for research trials. This is due to the USDA feed mill shutting down in March 2022 to do necessary repairs to their dated feed mill.
Historically, feed has been batched, bagged and hauled to USDA for pelleting and then returned to MSU. However, the government shutdown in 2019 and COVID regulations in 2020-2022, made the USDA facility inaccessible consequently hindering research, as well as the training of students.
Even when the USDA feed mill opens back at the end of 2022, MSU will remain to be limited on research, teaching, and service/outreach goals.
